President's Day Weekend Getaway

Ah, the celebration of American Presidents. Or more accurately, the realization that we had a three day weekend and we were going to use it.

All the world was ours. Well, all the world that we could reach over a three day period.

We threw out some wonderfully exotic locals. Sipping by white hot sandy beaches. All of which would take about 11 hours to get to, we'd be there about a day, cost an arm and a leg.

We like our legs. Arms too.

So, we cast closer to home and decided to visit Yosemite, which Karen had never seen.

We got a room in the delightful Royal Coach Inn in Jamestown, which I highly recommend. Jamestown is a delightfully scenic 70 miles out of Yosemite. We drove out early on Saturday and it seemed like we had much of the park to ourselves.

We took two very short walks to the Bridal Veil and Yosemite falls, and a longer stroll out to Mirror Lake under the loom of Half Dome.

On Sunday, we decided to head out to Murphy's for some wine tasting. The town is filled with wineries and its possible to spend a wonderful day tasting wine without having to do any driving.

There was also a wine festival going on, so we did enjoy some very tasty food pairings. None of which I intend to type up any description of... sorry.

Then we were off to a Tapas restaurant to while away the afternoon reading and noshing on tasty nibbles.

The best part of the weekend really though, was that for all that we were in a completely different landscape, a few hours drive and we were back home.

Really, the best of all possible worlds.
