5/21 Castlerigg Stone Circle

We woke up early and thus, my first ever sleep hiking. However, when we reached the stone circle, years of waiting were worth it. What really could encapsulate the pleasure of a dewy morning walk to an ancient stone circle. Massive hill tops looming, green valley and little lambs frolicking by the various lumps of ancient mystery. It was the very model of a laugh exhaling weary for pleasure.

…Scarce images of life, one here, one there,

Lay vast and edgeways; like a dismal cirque Of Druid stones, upon a forlorn moor, …

John Keats

The Lake District is amazingly beautiful - emerald green fields separated by low stone walls and dotted with fluffy white sheep and cute little lambs.

Ok, the sheep are kinda scraggily on closer inspection, but they're still picturesque as hell. The lake is a calm, clear blue surrounded by hills in a patchwork of greens and browns.

5/21 Buttermere and Grasmere, Fells

Buttermere Water

Grasmere Water

We decided to take the bus on a loop to Buttermere and Grasmere through the fells. Alas, the ad in the bus magazine misled us. For the slate quarry was dull and lacked a tea shop.. So, we walked down through the desolate, past more sheep, to the tiny village at the bottom of the hill, where we had a truly delightful tea.
