5/19 Warwick Castle

Henry VI, 3-4, 4:vi

"Warwick, thou art worthy of the sway,

To whom the heavens in thy nativity

Adjudged an olive branch and laurel crown,

As likely to be blest in peace and war;"

William Shakespeare

We had a great time in Warwick - the Disney version of a medieval castle complete with waxwork dioramas for different time periods (war of the roses, 1700's, and a Victorian weekend house party).

A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on

The greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are right sometimes.

He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire.

Democracy is the worst form of government except for all those others that have been tried.

In the oldest areas, wax figures frozen in their medieval lives. Medieval folk about their lives. Victorian people at a house party.

Rather than empty rooms, the focus on single events was like some window of time. Passing the great and the forgotten equally frozen.

5/19 Chester

Sites include a ruined church, the remnants of a Roman arena (more of a round ditch really), a city wall, and the aforementioned Victorian faux medieval buildings. Now made even more faux by being gutted and filled with modern stores.

faux Tudors

Chester was full of 100 year old faux Tudor buildings - the Victorians really knew how to do kitsch right.
