We stayed at a nice little bed and breakfast (turn the page) right near the harbor. After a lovely breakfast (the breakfast part of the B&B), we dressed in nice little suits, walked, shopped and went for tea at the Empress, which was fine and wonderously filling. Wierdest thing happened at tea. We were sitting next to this tour group. They obviously from the Bay area. Cool in its way. Then this woman came over and thanked us for wearing our red/white/blue ribbons, because "It means so much to ‘us’ American. We have so much rebuilding to do. So many lives were lost. She wanted to thank us for our support." |

There
wasn’t really any way to say tell we were Americans. They we come from
the same state, same city area. Maybe we’re neighbors. Let her have her
happy.
After tea we wandered. Went to Thunderbird Park, looked at totem poles. Looked at the offerings in front of a War Memorial. Flowers and notes. Prayers for peace. Thoughts of love and sympathy. Melted candles. From downtown, we drove to Craigdarroch Castle (not a real castle, just a Victorian fancy) built by the father of the man who built Dunsmuir house in Oakland. And so the world connects. And then we raced over the island and a torrent of rain to catch our ferry back to the mainland. |
