We drove through "heartland." Lots of farms, cows, sheep, and past a sign that said, "45th Parallel, halfway between the Equator and the North Pole." Very cool. We avoided Portland, headed out through the Columbia River Gorge. The wide slow river flows between rugged hills and cliffs covered with tall evergreen trees. It was very beautiful. Then our trip reached a new level of perfection - we tasted and bought wine at two small, family-run wineries.

| At
the time people thought that Stonehenge was a monument to gods of war.
He wanted to build a replica in this beautiful spot overlooking Mt. Hood
and the Columbia River and the wide open sky as a monument to peace.
There were yellow flowers on the stone alter in the center.
