Crater Lake. 7500 of years ago, there was a great big mountain here. A great big volcanic mountain. A great big volcanic mountain that blew its top off and left behind a great big round crater.

Every winter, drifts of snow up to 45ft feet deep fall  into the crater. Every spring, the snow melts to create the clearest, deepest lake in America.
The water is the most amazing royal blue, like venetian glass - perfectly clear and perfectly blue. And as we drove the water just seemed to get bluer.

Well, actually it was. The water is so incredibly blue because the incredibly clear water absorbs all other spectrums of light. Thus, as we drove around the lake, putting the sun behind us, the better angle made the water seem bluer.

Enough science. It was beautiful. Every where you looked. Blue, blue water. Mountains. Pine forests. Chipmunks and birds. The soft sound of the forest breathing.
