Description: A human being is raised to be a killing machine. Another man’s dog, but as Locke might suggest, the human spirit longs for freedom.
I’m not sure what it is with Luc Besson and sweet, kind killing machines, but I like it.
A fun movie with some good foo, which is combined with the ever enjoyable fish out of water learning to enjoy himself for the first time.
Jet Li is incredible as a man raised to be a human pit bull by the pleasingly repellant Bart, played by Bob Hoskins. His performance is nicely understated and minimalist. Really, just what you’d expect from someone with that much physical control. Also the fight scenes are just electric, including one very interesting scene in a 1 foot by two foot bathroom.
Morgan Freeman does what he does best, plays a decent likeable human being. The perfect counterpoint to Hoskin’s thuggish devil.
A bit formulaic, but, um…this Hollywood so that’s not a surprise. A Saturday matinee movie.
