Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Description: A weird and delectable tale. But who does not know it. Children win tickets to view the factory of Willy Wonka, where things are all chocolate imagination. Where things, well, they don’t go well.
But that’s what happens when all but one child are so very, very wicked. When the story is by Roald Dahl, who wrote such very, very vicious children’s stories.
Johnny Depp is creepily delicious as the confectioner of the imagination. Velvet and candy filled canes. He’s pale and childlike. He sputters on the word parent and is more than just a bit broken.
I wasn’t quite sure why they were going to remake this film. I mean the first one was a trip of the imagination. But this is a bit darker. Well, it was done by Burton and you can tell.
It doesn’t quite know what it wants to do, but an enjoyable movie. And seriously, Depp could make the phone book sound fascinating. And this, it’s no phone book.
