Super Bowl Sunday 1.29.01
While the rest of the Bay huddled before their t.v.'s, we carried out a long standing tradition of Super Bowl day shopping.

Around 12:30, Karen, Gina, and myself headed into the Haight in S.F. Ah, sweet Super Bowl Sunday. We found parking in about three seconds and met up with Dorothy and other Kevin.

We meandered. We wandered. Kitch and leather. We hit all of our favorite shops. We wrapped up at Piedmont, source of all things feathery/velvety/just plain flamboyant. I picked up a pair of leopard print opera length fingerless gloves (I said flamboyant). We all made a good haul and then headed to Benihana's for dinner. A good day. Then home to watch a little Queen of Swords. I covet the Colonel's wardrobe.

New Wave City 1.20.01
Two dance floors and lounges at a great  venue. I like the Barnveld, S.F. location because it's just huge.

The theme was a tribute to Vince Clarke, founding member of Erasure, Yaz, and Depeche Mode. The music sharp and hopping. I loved their new light system. Water patterns, candy canes, all sorts of cool stuff. The only down side was their smoke system which was a little sickly sweet smelling and headache making. However, since they had another dance floor to hang out in, it wasn't that bad.

2001 Ball 1.14.01

Please hum, the opening bars of the 2001 soundtrack.

Now, then, you're ready.

The 2001 Ball was Peer's SciFi Ball for this year. While technically 2001/Hal themed, there were costumes from throughout the galaxy. Ming and his minions, an astronaught, Psi Core, Trekkies, Strom Troopers, undecided aliens.

Karen and I went as Dendarii Mercenaries from the Miles Vorkosigan books by Lois McMaster Bujold. (Rant mode, read them they're really good.) And if I may say, we looked goooood. Uniforms are fun. You get to stride around owning the place.

The event was held at the Alameda Hotel Ballroom in Alameda. The fire place in the lounge was nice, but the accoustics really aren't the best. Then again the band seemed to be suffering from post Holiday blahs and weren't that peppy. There was only one Congress of Vienna Waltz and they kept fading out. Very annoying. On the other hand, we got to do an Imperial March from Star Wars and several nice tangos.

Afterwards, we held a small Afters at our place, well we live 5 minutes away. Given that we kicked our last guests out at 4 am, I'd say the evening was a success.
