A Winter's Day in the Sun
I love California.
Elsewhere winter means cold and snow and the phrase dead of winter means
something. Here it means the world turns green again. The California poppies
start to appear and in between the rain storms that make it happen, the
weather is clear and clean. Perfect day hike weather.
You know I wish I could say we remembered to bring our camera. It was
a gorgeous day in a lovely recreational park. But you know how these things
go.
Karen and I had decided that this year we wanted to get in a little
more hiking. We wanted to start off on a nice gentle trail. Preferably
one with pavement, what with the rain and wind and rain and mud earlier
in the week. I've hiked in mud up to my knees in hail storms, but sometimes
you want something a little easier than that.
The Coyote Regional Park was just the ticket.

It's always amazing to me how you can be in the middle of a built up area
with all these people and yet have all these pockets of the pastoral.
The park is just off of Hwy. 84 and Paseo Padre Parkway in Fremont.
For a $4 fee, we parked and meandered around a couple of easy gentle/paved
trails. The park's trails wander through salt marsh, grassy hills, and
along the Bay shore. You can also access the Alameda Creek Hiking and Bicycling
trail from the park.
We were a little lazier than that. It was nice to get out doors after
a pretty rainy week weather wise and stretch our legs in the new fresh
minted winter air. There was touch of snow on some of the higher East Bay
hills, but it was quite warm where we were and there wasn't much wind.
We observed a number of birds and bird watchers. And we made use of a couple
of the well placed benches to soak in the view.
