Shopping
We love to shop and our favorite shopping excursions are for costumes and
accessories. So this is a short list of some of the places we shop here
in the Bay Area (some have online stores too). Of course, we also shop
when we travel. We picked up some wonderful gloves, scarves, and fans in
France for example.
Ross? Yes. This store is a giant scavenger hunt - you never
know what you might find till you go look. For example, at a Ross in San
Francisco, Crystal, Gina, and I purchased matching thigh high black leather
boots only $30 a pair! I once found a full-length beaded dress in white
and silver for $25. On the other hand, sometimes I go and find nothing.
They have a wide range of sizes and styles combed from who knows where.
Check it out.
Haight Street
Haight Street in San Francisco is a treasure trove of the odd
and unusual. You can shop in thrift stores, craft stores, costume shops,
s&m shops, shops for drag queens (these have the best stuff!), and
you can grab a bite, a book, or a hard-to-find cd while you're at it. One
of our favorite stores is Piedmont,
where there is almost always some kind of sale on and the staff makes all
of the clothes themselves. If you ever need a pair of satin, aqua-marine
opera gloves or a spandex, sequined dress on short notice, this is the
place to go.
Telegraph Avenue
Not as funky as it used to be, but Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley
still has some quirky thrift stores and several shops full of club clothes
and accessories. Good place to go if your looking for purple vinyl pants
or a really tacky hawaiian shirt. The street vendors also offer a wide
range of hand made jewelry, tie-dyed clothes, and tshirts with anti-establishment
(or just plain weird) slogans.
I keep meaning to go here but I haven't made it yet. If you
want a corset custom made to your specifications, this is the place. Several
of our costuming friends rave about it. Someday, I'll save up enough money
to afford it.
This is a excellent place to look for that special leather
accessory. The fabulous black leather waist cinch that you see on Crystal
in the Catwoman pictures came from this store.
Once again, someday I'll save up enough money to shop here.
